Tech Review: Compression, EQ or Reverb Combination - Where Should I Start?

• Compression - EQ - reverb
• EQ - reverb - compression
• Reverb - compression - EQ
• Reverb - EQ - compression
• EQ - compression - reverb
• Compression - reverb - EQ

Each of these will produce a distinctly different sound quality, and any might be useful depending on what it is you want to achieve. It all rather depends on whether you want to follow standard practice, or be a little more unconventional.

"Learning the Art and Science Audio Engineering" @ Starlight Media Institute School of Audio Engineering Lagos Nigeria

"Learning the Art and Science Audio Engineering"
The Main objective and Prime Factor for Establishing Starlight Media Institute School of Audio Engineering.
- By Engr. Stephen Aluko.

The expertise of a sound engineer is required for a diverse range of projects including the recording and reproduction of music and sound, sound effects and dialoguing. All of these skills are required in the fields of film, television, radio, theatre, corporate functions, and promotions and of course in music. One of the most significant changes to affect the audio industry has been the move from analogue to digital technology, requiring audio engineers to increasingly deal on multi-faceted levels.

Tech Review: Aesthetics Vs. Engineering: Perception Perspectives.

Do the tools we have accumulated influence the way we work, or does the way we work influence how we use those tools?

A book I read which was reviewed for the AES Journal got me thinking about the blend of art and science we face regularly in professional audio.

The book, “Audio Production and Critical Listening; Technical Ear Training” by Jason Corey (Focal Press/CRC Press), is a very comprehensive work and covers every conceivable approach to ear training for mix engineers.

As with music, I believe that ear training is important in the audio world. Corey covers everything from EQ to dynamics processing to reverberation to the basics of microphone techniques. The book also includes a CD with software for ear training exercises.

2016 marks five years since we started Real Estate Unite. We are excited about the vibes the events generate and the transformation the industry has witnessed since its inception.

Reviewing Nigeria’s growth in January 2016, the Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, noted that “emerging markets and developing economies are now confronting a new reality of lower growth, with cynical and structural forces undermining the traditional growth paradigm. Nigeria has to deal with the difficulties presented by falling oil prices, reduced emerging market demands and tightening global financial conditions that have led to sharply lower export earnings and government revenues.” Some of the policy recommendations related to improving the competitiveness of the Nigerian economy were discussed. These include focusing on the critical area of infrastructure, where power, transportation and housing are especially key.

Studio Session Tip: Can A Compressor Correct Vocals That Are At Different Levels?

From a grunt to a scream, can a compressor even out all the varying levels of a vocal?

A question from a member of our group
"When I was recording a CD with my band, vocals day, I asked the producer what about the different levels of the vocal regions. The vocalist during the recording was moving a little, and there were some parts where the vocals were not at the same level. He told me, "When mixing I'll put in a compressor and all the vocals will be at the same level". My question is how I can do this? I have some metal vocals (screams and guttural vocals) and I want them all to be at the same level. Is this method correct?"
