Ingredients:
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 can 6 oz tomato paste
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375F 190C
In a large skillet, cook Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until sausage is browned and onion is translucent
Drain excess fat
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper
Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally
In a small bowl, mix ricotta cheese and egg until well combined
Spread a thin layer of the sausage mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish
Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce
Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles
Sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese
Repeat layers twice, ending with remaining sauce and cheeses on top
Cover with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes
Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown
Let stand for 10 minutes before serving
Garnish with additional basil if desired
